Introduction
The American Revolutionary War occurred from 1775 to 1783. There were multiple actions that up set the colonist which led to this war but one of the major reasons was the "acts" put on by Parliament. Parliament was the acting British government during the time and they enforced these "acts" which were either laws limiting what the colonist could do or they were taxes put on items to make Britain money. Once the war started which the first battle was first at Lexington and Concord, the American militia was skirmishing with British Redcoats. The American Continental Army which was the colonies established army continued fighting the British with help from militia to force the British surrender at the battle of Yorktown which led to the Treaty of Paris. The 13 colonies were able to defeat the British and gain independence because of their homeland advantage, the overwhelming support, and the aid from other nations.
